¡¡¡¡Established on January 18 th , 2005, College of Digital Arts Shanghai University £¬ is the first and the only comprehensive college specialized in digital arts in China, where the study of arts and digital technology is integrated within a single professional school.

Though the college is newly established, our comprehensive programs and services, excellent faculty and staff, vibrant physical environment, modern facility, and attractive campus are designed to provide a learning environment for academic, artistic, and professional excellence in the study of digital arts. Through teaching, research, creation, professional practice and public services, the college strives to deliver an excellent digital arts education for the creation and transmission of knowledge at the highest level, and the translation of that knowledge for public good.

Shanghai University consists of three campuses, namely Jiading, Yanchang and Baoshan. SHU ' s Jiading Campus is the home to our college. Shanghai , the largest city and the hotspot of modern China , is situated on the estuary of Yangtze River of China. Serving as the largest base of Chinese seaport, industrial technology, commercial and financial center, Shanghai draws the attention of the whole world. It is a cosmopolitan city buzzing with the concept of 'lifestyle revolution', showcased in the architectural temples of art, fine dining and contemporary urban living on the Bund. Shanghai continues to grow and prosper meeting the aspirations of the 21st century while retaining its proud traditions. Today's Shanghai is a multi-cultural metropolis with both modern and traditional Chinese features. Jiading, about 30 kilometers northwest of Shanghai, has a history of more than 780 years until now, so survive a number of well-preserved historical sites which have become a famous highlight of the city.

Sino-foreign Cooperative Education

SHU College of Digital Arts has been appointed by the City Government of Shanghai and the Shanghai University as one of major college for a Sino-foreign cooperative school. We are actively seeking a foreign prestigious university to jointly establish a Sino-foreign cooperative school of digital arts. With the rapid development of China ' s economic and political reforms, in combination with its accession to the WTO, this Sino-foreign cooperative school located in Shanghai is expected to be exceptional in a new global and digital environment.

Collaborative and Exchange Programs

The College has established collaborative programs with domestic and international education institutions and organizations. Support from Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Education of the People ' s Republic of China and Chinese Broadcasting & Television Association, the college has established Center for Chinese Architectural Culture, Design Center for Public Arts, Chinese Broadcasting & Television Association Research Center for Digital Arts. We also established College of Digital Arts Shanghai University ( Taiwan ) Design Research Center , College of Digital Arts Shanghai University ( Taiwan ) Image Strategy Ally Research Institution in cooperation with the department of fine arts of Taiwan Normal University and Taiwan Image Strategy Ally.

Department of Animation
¡¡ Animation is central to a broad range of contemporary digital arts and communications technologies, from special effects in feature films, to DVD-ROMs, virtual reality, the Internet and World Wide Web, installation and performance art and emerging forms being pioneered by artists and animators internationally. It is positioned to become the art form of the 21st century. Animation has emerged as a central element in the film, television, telecommunications and multimedia industries around the world. Animation Department offers three majors in 3D Animation, 2D Animation and Game Design. Students learn a broad range of concepts from hand-drawn character animation and experimental animation to state-of-the-art interactive computer graphics. The rigorous course work includes history of animation, writing for animation, animation fundamentals, film and television techniques, experimental animation, interactive animation, computer animation, critical studies, and both individual and team-designed projects. The department objective is to develop students into the truly exceptional professionals with a mix of qualities: talent, technical skills, adaptability, conceptual sophistication and visual imagination.

Department of Film and Television Art
¡¡ Degree programs in Department of Film and Television are designed to build specific skills upon a strong foundation of general knowledge of film and television production. Students learn all aspects of cinematic storytelling, from writing and producing to directing, sound design, cinematography and editing. In addition to focusing on the elements of the production process -- writing, producing, directing, cinematography, sound or editing, Film and Television Art students may choose to explore the filed in theatre performance and host

Department of Music
¡¡ The music faculty consists of highly trained and recognized artist-teachers in every area of specialization: composers, soprano singers, piano and keyboard instrument performers.The department has fine facilities for teaching and performance in music.
Department of Music possesses an integrated music education system and qualified faculties This department focuses on two majors: digital music production and music performance. Some teachers are first-grade We also enjoy an appropriate scale of facilities, such as specific music classrooms, multi-functional lobby. Our department offers two majors. Digital Music Production major helps students lay a solid foundation in terms of music for students¡¯ future study, and enables students to produce various kinds of musical works and digital programming. It also broadens students¡¯ creation thinking, and let them be able to create original musical works by applying modern digital technology. Musical Performance: major helps students lay a solid foundation for students¡¯ future study. It tries to equip students with personal as well as collective performing ability through strengthening their performance training. It aims to train expertise who can sing and perform Chinese developing music opera.

Department of Art Designing
¡¡ This department is composed of two majors: art designing of printed matter and image strategy. Many well-known professors and experts in this department teach students with mature teaching concepts. They integrate a great deal of extra-curriculum practice into classroom teaching in order to cultivate students¡¯ creation and independently creating ability. Students are expected to master the usage of various types of graph and image software, and undertake designing jobs in fields like books binding and layout, packaging, advertising, CI and VI. They are also supposed to become all-round expertise with both artistic creating knowledge and modern technology. The department offers three majors: Artistic Designing of printed matters, information arts design and industrial model ( toys and vehicle) design.

Department of Public Arts
¡¡ This department consists in two majors: public art designing and sculpture. It aims to train students needed in the society. Students are expected to master basic theories and techniques of public art designing and sculpture. They are expected to become creative talents in fields like designing, teaching and researching. The department offers four majors: public art designing, landscape art design, architectural art design and sculpture art design.

Department of Business of Art and Cultural Economy
¡¡ This department consists two majors: cultural creation industry and cultural management industry. These are two most advanced subjects in China. It aims at exploring relationship between art and market, art creation and market development, art creation industry and economic development from multi-angles. It also tries to explore new ways of Chinese art market research. Most teachers in this department are celebrated professors from both Chinese inland and Taiwan. Students are expected to be experts with both creativity and actual planning ability. Cultural creation industry major offers courses for the developing experienced experts with both cultural creativity and market economy consciousness. In other words, students are expected to become specialized planner with artistic creativity and planning ability, art economy management as well as high-level researchers. Art economy major offers programs to develop specialized personnel trained in both art and market aspect. That is to say, students are expected to become such professional personnel as art agent, planner, movie and TV planner, and auction agent.
